📰 USDT, the Genius Act & the New Stablecoin Race
The stablecoin space looks very different in 2026 than it did a few years ago — and U.S. policy is a big reason why.
🔹 The Genius Act, signed by President Trump in July 2025, created the first U.S. regulatory framework for stablecoins, requiring issuers to be audited and back tokens 1:1 with cash, Treasuries, or similarly liquid assets.
🔹 In response, Tether — the issuer of USDT — launched a new U.S.-compliant stablecoin called USAT, issued through federally chartered bank Anchorage, specifically to meet the Genius Act's requirements.
🔹 It's not the only Trump-linked entrant either: World Liberty Financial's USD1 stablecoin has grown past $2.1B in supply since launching in March 2025, deployed across BNB Smart Chain, Ethereum, and TRON.
🔹 Regulation has become a live political fight too — Trump has publicly pressured banks to "make a good deal with the Crypto Industry" over whether stablecoins can offer yield, a battle still playing out between banks and crypto firms.
Why it matters: USDT remains the most widely used stablecoin on Binance, but it's no longer operating in a policy vacuum. Compliance frameworks, competing issuers, and political involvement in crypto are all now part of the same story.
What do you think — does more regulation make stablecoins safer, or does it just favor whoever has the closest ties to policymakers? 👇
