OpenAI is expanding its global affairs team with three new hires focused on state-level policy. According to Sina Finance, the company said it brought in policy specialists with Republican and Democratic backgrounds and industry experience as bipartisan scrutiny of artificial intelligence intensifies across the United States.

Jessica Schumer, a former chief of staff to the Obama administration's Council of Economic Advisers, will handle policy and partnerships in the U.S. Northeast. Schumer is the daughter of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and previously led Amazon's public policy work in New York.

Caulder Harvill-Childs, who previously handled public policy for Meta, will lead state policy and partnerships in the U.S. Southeast. Harvill-Childs is a veteran Republican policy specialist who previously worked for Georgia House Speaker Jon Burns.

Thomas McClellan will lead OpenAI's state cybersecurity defense policy. He has more than 20 years of experience in cybersecurity and public policy and previously worked at Palo Alto Networks, Symantec, FireEye, and the National Governors Association.
