Journalist and CNN Brasil anchor William Waack said that the decision by Justice Alexandre de Moraes, issued this Thursday (3), “decreed the end of the STF, as we know it.” According to Waack, the measure, related to the fake news inquiry and to Justice André Mendonça, would have deepened a crisis within the Court itself.

In another analysis, Waack had also warned about the risk of “civil disobedience” amid the growing institutional crisis. He explained that he was not saying that civil disobedience had already occurred, but rather pointing to the possibility that the loss of trust in institutions and the sense of rejection of the Supreme Court’s decisions could increase tension in society.

In the journalist’s view, the moment places the STF in a delicate situation: any decision on the conflict between Moraes and Mendonça may have political and institutional consequences. CNN also highlighted that the crisis inside the Supreme Court has reached a level at which specialists have begun to discuss even which justices may remain on the Court at the end of the process.
