Bitcoin is trading around *$79,577 - $79,676* today, down about 1.7% on the day. The price dipped below $80,000 after a strong August jobs report showed 162,000 jobs added vs 65,000 expected. Earlier this week BTC had rallied to an intraday high above $82,000, its highest level since May, but profit taking pulled it back. Year-to-date Bitcoin is still down roughly 7%, while the S&P 500 is up over 10%.

The big driver this week has been Fed talk. Fed Governor Christopher Waller said he’d support holding rates steady in the Sept 16 meeting if inflation data shows continued progress. That sparked a short squeeze - over $443 million in crypto shorts were liquidated in 24 hours, with almost $205 million in Bitcoin shorts. Traders are now watching two key events: the US Consumer Price Index report due Sept 11, and the Senate’s procedural vote on the Clarity Act on Sept 15, which would regulate cryptos as commodities instead of securities.
