According to CNBC, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen will travel to Greenland's capital on Sunday and is expected to announce fresh funding for the self-governing Danish territory during her second trip to Nuuk with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen. The visit comes as U.S. President Donald Trump renews his push to acquire Greenland on national security grounds, while Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said the EU has shown support for Greenland in the geopolitical situation and that he looks forward to sharing more about the Joint Declaration for Greenland.

The EU's funding package for 2026 and 2027 may amount to 200 million euros ($232.4 million) and could target critical minerals, renewable energy and undersea cables. Von der Leyen previously opened the European Commission's office in Nuuk in March 2024 and signed cooperation agreements worth close to 94 million euros at the time.
