$BTC dropped around 2% in a few seconds, and so did ETH, BNB, SOL, XRP, and many other coins. But why does BTC affect them all?

Bitcoin is the main leader of the crypto market. When it drops fast, traders and bots often reduce risk across the whole market at the same time. Leveraged positions can also be liquidated, creating more selling pressure on BTC and altcoins. Since many coins are highly correlated with Bitcoin, their prices are quickly adjusted lower through automated trading and arbitrage.

BTC does not control every coin, but during sudden moves it often sets the market direction. If BTC falls hard, altcoins usually follow—and sometimes fall even more because they have less liquidity and higher volatility.
