AMC theater CEO Adam Aron posted on X (Twitter), blasting Robinhood, saying it is pushing tokenized U.S. stocks of more than 190 companies including AMC. He said these tokens were not registered under U.S. securities laws, and emphasized that AMC has nothing to do with it, will not recognize it, and is prepared to hire external lawyers to investigate.

Interestingly, the Robinhood disclaimer that Adam Aron included exactly corroborates the claim: Robinhood’s tokenized U.S. stocks are indeed not registered in the U.S., and are not sold to U.S. citizens.

Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev then responded: “Why be concerned?”

Tokenized real-world assets have long been a hot direction on-chain. Before traditional institutions move in, compliance is always an issue that can’t be avoided. This standoff is also a reminder to the industry that exploring the boundaries of compliance is destined to be anything but calm.
