Bitcoin Led Perp DEX Trading This Summer — But It Was Not Alone
BTC did $569B in perpetual DEX volume over the summer, far ahead of ETH. That part is familiar. The ranking underneath it is not. Perp markets spent June through August trading more than coins.
Tokenized and synthetic assets took 23.3% of combined volume among the Top 10. SpaceX led that group after the company’s June IPO, the largest in U.S. history. Traders did not need a Nasdaq account. They used 24/7 perps to long and short SPCX before and after the listing.
What the summer tape actually shows:
> Bitcoin still sits at the top with $569B
> Ethereum is second, but not close
> tokenized names filled almost a quarter of Top 10 volume
> SpaceX was the main non-crypto bid, helped by the June 12 debut at $135 a share
> gold, oil and index perps also cleared tens of billions on the same venues
That matters because perp DEXs used to be a crypto-native book. This summer they doubled as a leveraged market for stocks and commodities that traditional hours do not cover.
The catch: most of this is not ownership. A SpaceX perp is a bet on price, not a share in the company. Spot tokenized equity volume is still tiny next to the perp number, and some IPO-linked token products never delivered the underlying stock.
So Bitcoin still runs the board. The new readers on that board are not only crypto anymore.
