Oh damn, U.S. 10-year Treasury yields are starting to stir things up again
During the trading day, they even briefly surged to around 4.817%
The highest since November 2023
Don’t be fooled—just moving from 4.7% to 4.8%
In financial markets, those few dozen basis points aren’t a joke
So why is the market so scared?
Because the 10-year Treasury
in a sense, is the water tap for global financial markets
When it rises
mortgage rates, corporate financing, stock valuations, bond prices
and even global asset pricing will all feel the squeeze
What’s even more wild is
oil prices are hovering around $90 again
and the situation in the Middle East hasn’t quieted down yet
When oil rises, inflation expectations go up, rate-cut expectations go down, and Treasury yields keep climbing
That creates a pretty nasty feedback loop
And now the market is even betting on the Fed raising rates in September
The probability is already at about two-thirds
If that’s the case
then Bitcoin is definitely going to get beaten up
So yeah
4.82% is just the beginning
What’s most worrying is whether the 10-year yield will break through 5%
Once 5% is truly stamped past by the market
that’s when things get messy
Back then, everyone complained that Treasury yields were too low
so they went on a frenzy—stocks, tech stocks, crypto assets
Now as the risk-free yield becomes more and more attractive
funds start thinking
“Why the hell am I taking all this risk to trade crypto
when I can just take interest at around 5%?”
That’s the truly disgusting part of high yields for risk assets
4.8% is just an alarm
5% is possibly the psychological stress point when the market really gets nervous
Recently, Bitcoin has been a bit jittery
it’s been jabbing pins nonstop, getting stopped out and hit with losses
As a trader
the best approach is to choose patience and wait
Right now, whether you chase highs or chase lows
there’s a lot of uncertainty
If you truly can’t resist and want to trade
then you must take the profit and run right away
Play it like a guerrilla war
What do you think?
Will U.S. 10-year Treasuries break 5% first,
or will oil prices and inflation drop first?
