The New Zealand dollar fell broadly across Asian markets on Wednesday against a basket of global currencies, extending its losses for the second day in a row versus the U.S. dollar, and hitting its lowest level in three weeks. This was driven by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s meeting, whose results were largely in line with market expectations, while the bank’s comments appeared less hawkish than expected regarding the interest-rate path over the coming period.

The Reserve Bank raised the interest rate for the second consecutive meeting, and confirmed that its approach of gradual monetary tightening reduces the risks of needing to raise rates by larger amounts in the future.
