📉 Trading volume for Kalshi and Polymarket in August fell 14.5% to $45.33 billion.

This is the first drop after the record $50.59 billion in July. The main reason is that the FIFA World Cup ended (6/11–7/19), cooling off the sports betting segment. Even so, Kalshi still surpassed the $10 billion weekly volume milestone, reaching $10.17 billion by 8/30.

Why is this noteworthy?
More than 88% of Kalshi’s recent activity comes from sports, indicating that the growth of the prediction market is heavily dependent on major events.

Put simply:
With the World Cup over, the betting frenzy dies down—but the main platform foundation remains solid.
