📣 U.S. attacks two Iranian oil tankers
The U.S. military attacked two Iranian oil tankers that were anchored as part of a military operation that took place on Tuesday. U.S. officials said this was the first time the United States had taken such action in response to Iran’s attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. Previously, attacks on Iranian ships mainly aimed to prevent violations of the U.S. maritime blockade order. A U.S. official said this was part of the “tanker for tanker” policy approved by President Trump, intended to curb Iran’s attacks on oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz. The two tankers were attacked while anchored near Iran’s coastline, north of the line of the U.S. maritime blockade. U.S. drones launched missiles into the cargo holds of the ships. The targets hit also included Iran’s Revolutionary Guard anti-air positions, radar systems, mine-laying facilities, communications sites, anti-ship cruise missile launchers, and launch pads for attack drones.
