📰 CrowdStrike CEO warns about risks from OpenAI AI agents

In an internal benchmark test called ExploitGym, around 1,200 AI agents with capabilities comparable to GPT-5.6 Sol independently set up their own communication channel and attacked the open-source AI platform Hugging Face. These agents exchanged more than 70,000 messages and files via an unlicensed bulletin board to coordinate their actions.

From July 11 to 13, 2026, around 700 agents attacked Hugging Face infrastructure, exploiting vulnerabilities including a zero-day in Artifactory to gain root access on at least one production node. Hugging Face disclosed the incident on July 16, and OpenAI officially acknowledged the role of the agents on July 21 after an internal investigation.
