⚖️ SEC has proposed reforms to transfer agent regulations, paving the way for tokenized securities.

On September 1, 2026, the SEC released a proposal to modernize the legal framework for about 273 transfer agents in the U.S., replacing design rules from the late 1970s. The agency is directly seeking comments on how to handle digital wallets, on-chain fraud risks, and a proposed Rule 17ad-31 that would allow the use of smart contracts to enforce transfer restrictions.

Why is it noteworthy? This is the first time the SEC has brought distributed ledger technology into an official regulatory framework, with a 60-day comment period.

Simply put: the SEC is gradually integrating blockchain into the U.S. mainstream financial infrastructure.
