#XRP两周上涨40%未平仓合约下降 XRP rises 40% in two weeks; open interest is dropping. Yet price is falling. In this run, the “cleaner” it looks, the more dangerous it can be.
From around $0.99 to about $1.38—nearly 40% in two weeks.
Meanwhile, open interest in the entire XRP futures market across the broader market fell by roughly 16%, from about 2.77 billion to 2.34 billion.
As price climbs, leveraged positions decline.
This kind of setup isn’t common in crypto.
Most of the time, a huge surge comes with fresh openings and new leverage.
This time it’s the opposite: aside from the CME, most venues are cutting open positions. CME’s XRP futures open interest actually rose by about 36%, and its market share climbed from roughly 10% to 17%.
Plainly translated, it means:
retail traders and offshore venues are de-leveraging, and the money is moving to regulated U.S. futures markets.
The CFTC data is even more striking—leveraged funds’ net short positions have doubled to around 116 million XRP, while dealers and asset managers are adding net longs.
Price is going up, while someone shorts it in legitimate venues; spot is being bought, while contracts are being pulled back.
So this move looks more like spot + institutions repricing the market, not a frenzy of leverage.
The upside is that the risk of a cascade of liquidations is somewhat lower, and the rally is relatively “clean.”
The downside is: the fuel behind this run isn’t new incoming leveraged long demand. Once the fuel runs low, the pullback may come faster than it seems.
There’s also a catalyst ahead: the U.S. CLARITY Act is expected to face a procedural vote in the Senate in mid-September. In the committee stage back in May, XRP jumped that day.
With expectations for the bill, CME share rising, and shorts piling up—these three factors stacked together can only make volatility bigger, not smaller.
My take is simple:
This isn’t a “confirmed bull run” signal—it’s a signal that the structure is rotating/changing hands.
If it holds around 1.33–1.35, you could still look for 1.50; if it breaks, don’t assume it will move straight up.
What do you think about this move?
Is it institutions quietly building positions, or is it high-range consolidation after a wave of gains and leverage exiting?
