Russia’s own version of the “Crypto Clarity Act” — the “Digital Currency and Digital Rights Act” — will come into effect today.

1. After passing tests through each intermediary, retail investors may purchase up to ₽300,000 ($3,700) worth of cryptocurrency per year.

2. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and USDT are the only cryptocurrencies that retail investors are allowed to buy. Qualified investors are not subject to any limits.

3. Cryptocurrency exchanges must be registered with the Russian banks.

4. Companies may use cryptocurrency for cross-border payments without any limits.

5. P2P trading remains legal, but will face tighter regulation, including stronger AML checks and increased bank monitoring of cryptocurrency transactions.
