BTC 78,314,The monthly chart just closed. Three things happened almost at the same time, pointing in the same direction.
First: @pete_rizzo_ got it—Strategy officially announced that it bought 4,603 BTC, worth $370 million, at an average price of 80,300. @Cointelegraph added: “Strategy sold from 60,200 to 64,300, and now they bought back at 80,300. Sell low and buy high?” No matter how they frame the timing, $370 million is real money. @pete_rizzo_ also added: Strategy’s market cap is even bigger than the parent company of GTA 6.
Second: August’s monthly close is green. @AshCrypto: “First time August has closed green in a BTC bear market.” @pete_rizzo_: “Highest monthly close since February 2024.” In prior bear markets, August always fell. This time it rose from 63,000 to 78,000—about 25%.
Third: U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent publicly supports the BTC reserve. @pete_rizzo_ reported his exact words: “The $500 million we hold is now worth $15 billion—that’s America’s assets.” Official U.S. messaging is basically “we’re not selling.” Around the same time, there was a Brazil election candidate who was suspended for promising to establish a BTC reserve—some wanted to buy but were blocked, while others bought and won’t sell.
There are a few more. @TheBlockCo reported that Strive bought another 1,800 BTC last week ($143 million), becoming the publicly listed company with the fifth-largest BTC holding. @lookonchain weekly report: publicly listed companies added a total of 4,003 BTC last week. @BitcoinNews: the supply of BTC held for more than a year fell to 11.84 million coins, dropping below 60%—old coins are moving.
@CoinMarketCap reposted Glassnode’s take: “BTC is in a transition phase; institutional inflows being boosted by leverage are offset by short-term distribution.” @cryptorover on technicals: “The weekly chart hasn’t closed above the 50-week moving average and the 365-day moving average. Close above 100K and it’s the next step; if it can’t, there is no bull market. 81K is the line in the sand.”
The market is calmer than yesterday. Total market OI is $137.3 billion (+2.55%). 24h liquidations are $153 million, down from yesterday’s $431 million by 61%—the shakeout seems to be over. Long/short ratio is 49.92/50.08, basically a 50-50 split. Binance fee rate is 0.0073%, mild. CME open interest is $9.09 billion—institutions are still there.
Saylor really bought. August closed green. The U.S. Treasury Secretary is propping it up. But the weekly chart hasn’t closed above 81K—old coins are loosening. Glassnode said it’s a transition phase. September has the Non-Farm Payrolls and the FOMC. Are you betting long with these three confirmations, or betting short against the 81K resistance?
