Foresight News: In a post, Solana core client development team Anza said it is gradually removing floating-point operations from the Solana core protocol to reduce the risk of consensus divergence or network liveness issues caused by rounding differences across different hardware, validator clients, and compilers.

SIMD-0391 was activated on the mainnet during Beta epoch 1026. The floating-point operations in the staking program and validator client’s stake warm-up and cooling logic have been changed to fixed-point operations. SIMD-0607 has been proposed and is currently in the review stage, and plans to further remove floating-point operations from the paths for runtime inflation rewards and rent calculations.
