OpenAI has directly stockpiled tens of thousands of Mac minis and Mac Studios to do AI reinforcement learning. Anthropic is also renting large numbers of Mac minis on Amazon to run AI tasks.
A bit funny is that Apple hasn’t really been specifically pushing its AI business; yet it somehow ended up catching the benefits of the AI wave and unexpectedly became a beneficiary of AI infrastructure.
In addition, Anthropic is also partnering with Raspberry Pi to develop a new hardware standard, though so far neither of the two big companies has purchased Raspberry Pi devices to run tasks.
It’s clear that AI training isn’t limited to a single path using GPUs—big companies are trying out various hardware solutions.
