⚛️ $XRP The XRP Ledger moves into the preparation phase for the era of quantum computers

The XRP Ledger infrastructure is being adapted to address a possible future threat related to quantum computing. According to the post-quantum plan released by Ripple, the strategy calls for a gradual implementation, with completion projected for 2028, as well as response mechanisms in case the so-called Q-Day happens earlier than expected.

🔐 The plan is divided into four phases:

1️⃣ Contingency: in a scenario where the current cryptographic signatures are compromised, the XRPL could stop validating this type of signature and route assets to accounts compatible with post-quantum security.

2️⃣ Tests: starting in 2026, different post-quantum signature mechanisms recommended by NIST begin to be evaluated under conditions close to real network operations.

3️⃣ Parallel implementation: traditional signatures and new cryptographic systems will run simultaneously on the Devnet, enabling testing before a definitive migration.

4️⃣ Mainnet: after the evaluation and validation phases, the switch to the main network is planned to occur by 2028.

🛡️ This initiative does not mean that a disruption event caused by quantum computers is expected to happen soon. The goal is to establish an alternative to the current elliptic-curve cryptography-based keys in advance, reducing risks if this technology becomes vulnerable in the future.

📌 In summary: the XRP Ledger is adopting a preventive strategy, with testing, gradual migration, and an emergency mechanism to handle a possible faster advance in quantum computing.

👀 The key question becomes whether this kind of preparation represents a necessary evolution of blockchain infrastructure, or whether the impact of the quantum threat is still distant enough to make these efforts premature.
