Can a Blockchain Be Hacked?

Short answer: No. A real blockchain can't be easily edited. Hacking it is extremely difficult.

But there's a catch — "blockchain" and "crypto apps built on top" are different. That's where most hacks actually happen.

1. Can You Edit the Blockchain Itself?

Almost impossible on big public chains like $BTC and Ethereum. Here's why:

To edit Block #500 from 3 years ago, you'd need to:

1. Change that block → Its hash changes
2. Re-mine Block #500 and every block after it — that's millions of blocks
3. Do it faster than the entire rest of the network — and on 51%+ of all computers worldwide

The cost:

· Bitcoin 51% attack: ~$15+ billion in mining hardware + electricity per day
· Ethereum 51% attack: You'd need to control $50+ billion worth of staked $ETH

Math + economics make it practically impossible.

2. What CAN Get Hacked, Then?

The blockchain itself is strong. The stuff built around it is weak.
