🟡Gold hits fresh highs, then turns and plunges; #BTC at high levels becomes a tug-of-war between bulls and bears, with stronger gold correlation 🟠$BTC BTC surged to 80,000 and then quickly pulled back! Two scarce assets dropped in sync. On the surface, the logic seems consistent, but the underlying risks are completely different.

In mid to late August, both moved upward in resonance. Expectations for U.S. fiscal policy drove funds into gold and BTC spot ETFs. $BTC BTC pushed to challenge the 80,000 level, while gold set a new all-time high.
The Jackson Hole meeting released hawkish signals. U.S. Treasury yields rose, and both types of non-yielding assets were collectively hit with selloffs. Gold fell nearly 3% in a single day, and $BTC BTC saw synchronized deep corrections as a large number of leveraged positions were liquidated.

Similarities

Both are scarce assets with no cash flow, and are fundamentally governed by real interest rates. When rate expectations rise, they come under pressure. In environments where there are fears about easing and U.S. dollar credit, they tend to strengthen together.

The fundamental difference

Gold: a “cushioning” asset with a centuries-long consensus; central banks continue to accumulate it. Pullbacks are often just corrections, and it has strong risk-resilience.
BTC: the so-called “digital gold,” but its safe-haven characteristics are weak. When the market is good, its upside can be explosive. When liquidity tightens, the downside can be far larger than gold’s, and leverage will further magnify losses.

Macro timing may rhyme, but never treat BTC as if it were gold to hedge risk.
