According to the UK’s Financial Times, global leading AI company Anthropic is set to officially list as early as this October, with the valuation given by investors reaching $200 billion. $200 billion—higher than Elon Musk’s SpaceX valuation of $177 billion before its IPO, which will set a record for the largest IPO in history. Behind it is a pair of siblings—brother and sister. In 2021, Dario Amodei and Daniela Amodei left OpenAI and founded Anthropic, since when they have become an ever-present rival that OpenAI can’t quite escape. Five years later, Anthropic’s valuation has already surpassed its former employer. In May of this year, all seven co-founders entered the global rich list with stakes of less than 1% each. And since its founding in 2021, Anthropic has been supported by scores of top-tier global tech capitals—Google, Amazon, Nvidia, Salesforce, Sequoia Capital, and many other institutions have all placed bets. They have doubled down again and again, securing a seat on the ship of a super company in the AI era. Of course, they will also reap unimaginable wealth returns. Just as the line goes, “This is the best of times”—in only five years, a species valued at $1 trillion can spring up from the ground. But don’t forget the other line: “This is also the worst of times.”
