The Japanese yen has weakened past ¥160 per U.S. dollar, reaching its lowest level in about a month as the greenback strengthened following Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s hawkish Jackson Hole remarks.

The yen fell as much as 0.5% to ¥160.20, giving back more than half of its gains from Japan’s July 31 coordinated intervention with the U.S. Treasury.

Hedge funds have also increased short-yen positions for a second straight week. Markets are now watching closely for signs that Japanese authorities could intervene again.
