In international ocean freight logistics, the efficiency of container usage and circulation is the key to whether global supply chains run smoothly. To speed up the return of containers, container shipping companies typically set a free usage period (Free Time) for container renters or cargo owners. Once the container’s time at the port yard exceeds the free period, or after pickup outside the port the empty container cannot be returned to the designated yard within the required time, the shipping company charges a high daily demurrage fee (Demurrage) and detention fee (Detention).
