For mainstream perpetual futures contracts, other fees mainly include trading fees and the funding rate.

Trading fees:

Opening and closing positions are also divided into limit orders and market orders—i.e., maker and taker.

Mainstream platform standard base trading fee: maker (limit order): 0.02%.

taker (market order): 0.05%.

Maker (limit order) includes take-profit and stop-loss as long as it’s not a buy/sell executed at the current price.

Simpler way to think about it: if you manually input the price, it counts as a maker (limit) order; if you don’t set a price, it counts as a taker (market) order.

Trading fee = position value × fee rate.

For example: 20X. Buy with the current price one Bitcoin worth 30000U, and the position value is 30000U.

Position value = number of coins × opening price (principal × leverage multiple)

Using the example above,

30000U × 0.05% = 15U,

So it’s just about opening a position—trading a single Bitcoin’s trading fee is not something to be overlooked. Add the closing fee too: closing at the current price versus closing with a limit order.

Closing at the current price: 30000U × 0.05% = 15U

Closing with a limit order: 30000U × 0.02% = 6U

So for completing a single contract trade, the trading fee for one Bitcoin is 12U–30U. And that’s when the Bitcoin price is 30000U. Based on the current coin price, the fee to buy and sell one Bitcoin is 30.8–77U.

Mainstream platforms generally have lower trading fees than second- and third-tier platforms. Second- and third-tier platforms typically start at 0.06%… Funding rate chapter:

In perpetual contracts, besides the trading fee, there’s also a funding rate. But the funding rate is not a fixed value; it is determined by the difference in the market’s long-to-short ratio.

The main purpose of the funding rate is to balance the market's long-to-short ratio.

Funding rate formula: position value × funding rate

When the funding rate is positive,

For long positions, the funding rate is deducted based on the position value. For short positions, the funding rate is received based on the position value.

Conversely, when the funding rate is negative: long positions receive money, while short positions pay money.

The funding rate is settled once every day at 00:00, 08:00, and 16:00 (only at the settlement time points will your open positions be charged or credited).

Basically, when trading perpetual contracts, besides profit and loss on positions, there are only these two types of costs. The funding rate is unavoidable. Most people ignore the importance of trading fees—after trading frequently for a few months, the trading fees will end up being more than the principal. But there are also ways to reduce trading fee costs.
