According to the BBC, new satellite imagery has shown the scale of destruction along Nepal's Trishuli River after Wednesday's deadly flash flood, which was triggered by a glacier collapse. Officials said more than 550 people have been killed and hundreds more are missing, while villages, bridges and hydroelectric power stations were damaged or washed away along the river valley.

The imagery from US-based intelligence firm Vantor showed a key Nepal-Tibet border crossing almost entirely washed away, while the village of Timure has largely disappeared and Syapru Besi is covered by mud, rock and debris. Satellite pictures also showed damage at Trishuli, where an entire neighborhood was essentially washed away, and the collapse of a bridge was captured in verified video. Planet Labs imagery released today showed the collapsed glacier and a barrier lake at the base of the landslide, which Chinese authorities warned could pose a further flooding risk and has hampered rescue efforts.
