#centralbanksbuy289tonsgoldinq2 🏦 CENTRAL BANKS ADD 289 TONNES OF GOLD IN Q2
Central banks and other official institutions added an estimated net 289 metric tonnes of gold in Q2 2026—up 62% year over year, according to the World Gold Council.
Among reported buyers, Poland added 51 tonnes and China added 33 tonnes.
📌 Context matters:
This was the strongest second quarter on record. However, the WGC also revised Q1 purchases down to 57 tonnes, leaving first-half central-bank demand at its lowest since 2022. A strong quarterly rebound does not tell the whole story.
🧠 My take:
The buying reinforces gold’s role in reserve diversification, while showing how uneven demand can be across quarters.
Official purchases are meaningful, but they do not guarantee higher prices. Interest rates, the dollar and investment flows also deserve attention.
💡 The Bitcoin connection:
This brings the store-of-value debate back into focus. But central-bank gold purchases are not evidence of Bitcoin buying or an automatic signal for a crypto rally.
💬 Gold, Bitcoin or both—which has the stronger long-term store-of-value case?
Not financial advice.
