I looked back at my post from July 18 and said that BNB’s unrealized gains were roughly like selling four months’ worth of inventory. Now looking back: BNB is at 709, and back then in July it was around just over 600. In a bit more than a month, it gained another 15 percentage points. But I can’t really get happy about it, because I misjudged my ETH position.

In early August, I posted that ETH’s unrealized profit at 1918 was enough to cover two seasons of fall clothes, so I kept pressing. I had actually been debating whether to sell half around the 2000 level first, and use the incorrectly allocated money from the 2022 trade to pull it back. In the end, I didn’t move. Now ETH is at 2487. It looks like it’s gone up, but if you add up the total: my average cost is 1550, and I bought a 30% position. If I had sold half at 2000, and then it dropped back and I bought again, my unrealized profit would be quite a bit higher. If I didn’t sell, then I didn’t sell—no loss, just less profit.

But what truly makes me regret it is SOL. It’s up 5.46% over the last 24 hours today, reaching 106.88. I’d been watching it for almost three months. During the May dip to 75–80, I noted it as “keep it under observation,” because inventory was weighing it down and I didn’t dare to make any moves. Result: from 80 to 106, more than 30 percentage points—and I didn’t buy a single thing. The level of regret is about the same as that batch of my store’s Ultraman collab T-shirts. At the start of the year, the supplier quoted 18 per piece and I didn’t take it. Later, someone else’s started selling like crazy. When I restocked, the price was already up to 27, and my profit margin was cut in half.

That’s how spot trading is: being right without buying is almost as painful as being wrong. Do you have coins like that—“recorded in the observation zone” but you never made a move? Right now, my observation zone still has LINK and ONDO. I checked LINK too; it hasn’t moved much. ONDO, on the other hand, looks like it’s really starting to rise. Should I clear out the observation zone then? That’s a question I was still thinking about when I was sorting through my holdings.
