📆 16 years ago, someone asked Satoshi a critical question:

❗️If a government arrested Satoshi and seized his key, could they shut down the entire Bitcoin network?

Satoshi’s answer remains one of the most important in Bitcoin’s history:

No.

The alert system key at the time was never a “shutdown button” for Bitcoin.

At most, it could temporarily disable six JSON-RPC commands until node operators upgraded their software or added a setting to bypass the safe mode.

More importantly:

🔹 Nodes would continue running.
🔹 Mining would continue.
🔹 The network would remain operational.

Even if Satoshi disappeared, he explained that any developer could modify a couple of lines and release a new version that bypassed the alert system.

That’s what many people still misunderstand about Bitcoin.

Bitcoin is not a company.
It’s not a server.
It’s not an app with a shutdown button.
And it doesn’t depend on its founder being alive, free, or involved.

The real strength of Bitcoin is that even Satoshi himself never had the power to shut it down.

That’s the difference between a centralized project and a truly decentralized monetary network. ₿
