A group of South Korean financial services, Mirae Asset, is moving to expand its presence in the digital assets sector through its Digital X platform, in a plan aimed at building activity with a value reaching 150 trillion won—about $109 billion.

According to the report, this plan will center on several parallel tracks that include cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, real-world assets, and security token offerings, indicating the group’s desire to turn Digital X into a broader platform than just a traditional trading platform.

The vision also includes a direction toward tokenizing tangible assets such as gold, silver, and electricity, reflecting a growing trend among financial institutions to link traditional assets with digital infrastructure. This kind of project could open the door to wider uses of digital securitization in the Korean market, with potential extensions across Asia.

These plans come after Mirae Asset Consulting acquired a 97.15% stake in Korbit in July for a cumulative 141.4 billion won, before the platform was relaunched under the name Digital X. This marks the first time a subsidiary of a South Korean financial group has taken control of a local digital asset trading platform.

Korbit was established in 2013 and was the first cryptocurrency trading platform in South Korea. Despite this early start, its share did not exceed 0.5% of the country’s cryptocurrency trading market during 2025, according to data from the Korean Fair Trade Commission.

During an internal employee event in Seoul on Wednesday, Mirae Asset Park Hyeon-joo, the founder and chairman, said the first goal is to make Digital X a cornerstone of Mirae Asset’s strategy Mirae Asset 3.0.

In a parallel operational step, Digital X began on Monday waiving trading fees on all won-denominated assets, with this exemption set to continue until August 24, 2027.

These moves reflect a clear institutional trend toward building broader digital-asset infrastructure in South Korea, with a particular focus on stablecoins, securitization, and tokenizing real-world assets—areas that may become more influential in competition and regulation in the next phase.
