GEN Z & CRYPTO - EP. 06
Long-Term Investing Isn't Just an “Older Generation” Thing Anymore.
We often associate long-term investing with older investors: people thinking about retirement, pensions, and portfolios they plan to hold for decades. But the numbers paint a different picture. Around 70% of young investors say they think long term, while among banking customers, many are comfortable with investment horizons of five years or more, and 76% prefer stable investments with more predictable returns.
And honestly, I find that shift pretty interesting.
Gen Z is often described as the generation of instant gratification, yet when it comes to money, many young investors seem to be developing the opposite mindset: they're willing to wait. Maybe it's because they've grown up watching markets move through multiple crises, or because building wealth feels like a long game when the cost of living keeps rising.
This also changes how I look at Gen Z's relationship with crypto. If younger investors become more focused on long-term wealth rather than quick profits, crypto could gradually be viewed less as a place to chase the next pump and more as one component of a broader portfolio.
Of course, thinking long term doesn't mean avoiding risk. It means understanding what you're buying, knowing why you're holding it, and being prepared for volatility instead of expecting overnight returns.
So maybe we should stop saying “young investors want everything instantly.”
When it comes to building wealth, Gen Z might actually be learning to play the long game.
