Public debt is formed through borrowing from banks, investors, and other countries to finance budget expenditures. Ukraine ranked 38th in the global sovereign debt ranking, with a figure of about $276.2 billion, which is 122.6% of GDP.
The top three spots were taken by the United States ($40.73 trillion), China ($22.29 trillion), and Japan ($8.95 trillion). The United States and China together account for about 53% of the public debt of the 180 countries included in the calculation.
