It is not only a political slogan—it concerns the very foundation of what it means to be human.
✅ Freedom is the ontological condition of “being human.”
The fundamental difference between human beings and animals lies in consciousness and choice. Animals are driven by instinct, while humans possess free will. If a person’s right to choose is taken away, it essentially turns the person into a thing—an object to be used. Existentialist philosophy is blunt: human beings are destined to be free; this is human dignity—because it is freedom that requires us to take responsibility for our actions, allowing us to become moral subjects rather than being programmed like machines.

Happiness has no one-size-fits-all formula; each person defines a “good life” differently. Freedom grants us the right to try, to explore the meaning of life according to our inner endowments. Whether choosing a career, a partner, or a belief—only choices made by free will can bring genuine fulfillment; happiness imposed by force is, in essence, spiritual enslavement.

From how society operates, freedoms such as speech, publication, and assembly are the most effective tools for citizens to check power. Absolute power inevitably leads to corruption and darkness, while ample freedom enables pluralistic contests—so that truth has a way out and injustice is seen. This is not only protection of individual rights, but also an “immunity mechanism” that keeps society’s systems healthy and functioning.
