🇯🇵 Japan officially moves its $800 billion government bond market onto a blockchain.

According to Nikkei, the Financial Services Agency, the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Japan, and the country’s three largest banks are building a system for real-time 24/7 settlement of stocks and government bonds.

JPMorgan and the Japan unit of BlackRock have already been testing competing blockchain settlement systems for the same market.

This comes weeks after Japan ended a four-year freeze on cryptocurrencies and began treating digital assets as financial products.
