BTC just touched a bit over 80,000 and then slipped back to 79.4k. In 7 days it’s up 14.65%—but the most striking thing about this rally isn’t the rise, it’s the money withdrawing.
On the spot side, in the past ~3 hours there’s been a net outflow of nearly 10,000 coins. Over the last 5 candles, large orders have net flowed out 1,773 coins. Across the last 12 candles, there hasn’t been a single net inflow—when it hit the peak, the big buy orders from the takeovers were actually all heading for the exit. This isn’t profit-taking; it’s mass distribution.
The futures side doesn’t give any face either: the basis flipped directly into discount (trading below spot). Futures are even cheaper than spot. The funding rate is frozen around 0.01%. Open interest has not increased for seven hours—it’s actually shrinking. Up to this level, not a single leveraged long chased. Even the whales reduced positions by 3.84% over those seven hours. On the order book, the buy-side depth is only 80% of the sell side, and all the orders sitting above are selling pressure.
My take: short. This 14.65% move was driven by an inertia top—not by money being bought in. With no support at the high end, finding room to move down is easier than breaking higher.
Reversal conditions: spot net outflow turns positive, volume picks up and price closes above 80,500, and the basis returns to positive with the premium back in place. If at least two of the three happen, shorts should exit.
