Korean Stocks Rebound Strongly! KOSPI Up 1.53%; Samsung Electronics and SK hynix Rise Together
Korea’s stock market showed strong performance today. The KOSPI closed up 104.16 points, a gain of 1.53%, to 6,912.37 points. The weighted semiconductor sector continued to drive gains, with Samsung Electronics up 1.72% and SK hynix up 2.49%.
The key momentum behind this rally still comes from expectations for AI computing power and semiconductor demand. Nvidia’s latest earnings and follow-up guidance came in strong, further reinforcing market expectations for continued growth in demand for AI servers, HBM high-bandwidth memory, and related chips. As a result, Korea’s semiconductor leaders attracted follow-on buying.
Notably, on the same day the Bank of Korea released a slightly hawkish signal, which at one point limited the KOSPI’s early-session gains to nearly 3%. Ultimately, however, the index narrowed to a 1.53% rise. But despite pressure from interest rates, Samsung Electronics and SK hynix remained in positive territory, suggesting that the market’s confidence in the fundamentals of the AI industry chain remains strong.
Especially SK hynix, which has recently become an important beneficiary of AI storage demand. As HBM demand continues to grow, market attention to the cyclical outlook of the memory industry is still increasing.
In one sentence: The Bank of Korea’s rate hikes weigh on valuations, Nvidia’s results support demand, and in the end it was semiconductors that steadied Korean stocks. Next, the focus will be on whether Samsung Electronics and SK hynix can continue to strengthen, and whether AI computing demand can sustain its momentum. $SKHY $SKHYNIX
