Foreigners’ reactions to 《牛来》 left me completely speechless.

Reuters, AP, The Guardian, and The Financial Times all covered it—online, overseas, there are clips everywhere. I originally thought foreigners would just mock it for everything it’s worth, but instead they were surprisingly tolerant. A lot of people found it both outrageous and hilarious, and some even sympathized with the mother and son who spent five years making the film, asking everywhere where they could watch the full version.

Back home, everyone is complaining about how bad the movie is. But foreigners look at the issue from completely different angles. They don’t really care if the visuals are rough; they actually find this clumsy, awkward style kind of special.

Honestly, I feel pretty moved. We’re always afraid that domestic stuff isn’t “high-end” enough to show, but overseas audiences don’t necessarily chase after polish. They care more about whether it’s fun, and whether it can make people remember it.
