It’s not about whether the performance is good: which number is truly being traded on the earnings night of $NVDA ?

After $NVDA ’s seven-day streak of declines, it bounced back 2.2%. Why is the most dangerous part of earnings night not guessing the direction wrong—but actually being right on growth and still losing money? Because the market has treated “strong growth” as an entry ticket; what’s really being traded is the magnitude of the upside surprise.

Fact: Reuters said that NVIDIA will report results for the second fiscal quarter after the close in the U.S. East this Wednesday. Investors are waiting for growth evidence driven by the Rubin chip, and they’re also assessing whether AI infrastructure financing is sustainable. According to Axios, the rally that ended Tuesday’s move broke the longest continuous downtrend since June 2019.

Binance data verification: the NVDAUSDT perpetual contract for $NVDA is in TRADING status. At the time of writing, the price in the past 24 hours is $212.36, up 0.50%. This product tracks the stock price, and leverage does not reduce the risk of earnings-gap slippage.

So this could be either a valuation repricing after fundamental changes, or a short-term squeeze of capital before the results are released. The difference isn’t how “hot” the headline is—it’s whether, after earnings, the price action, trading volume, and guidance move in the same direction. Only when all three confirm together is it closer to a trend, not just one-minute sentiment.

If the bulls’ bets on data-center demand and a strong new product cycle are solid enough, they can lift expectations another level. The bears worry that valuations already require nearly flawless guidance; issues with financing and customer returns could weaken the narrative. The easiest mistake is to use high leverage to gamble on the very first candlestick after the market opens post-earnings.

Speculation: the most critical company signal is whether the next-quarter guidance can come in above the level the market has already priced in. The market signal is whether, 15 to 30 minutes after the gap, the initial direction can be held.

My view: treat it first as a high-volatility event—not a guaranteed opportunity. Risk warning: earnings can widen the gap, increase bid-ask spreads, and raise the probability of liquidations. If you can’t accept an overnight loss, you shouldn’t increase your position size. Keep your risk budget for trades after confirmation, not for speculation. Even if you’re right, an excessively large position may get you out prematurely many times.
