Amazon has signed a definitive agreement to acquire data infrastructure company DuckLabs. The deal is expected to close after customary conditions are met, and DuckLabs' team will join Amazon Web Services (AWS) after completion. According to Odaily, DuckLabs is the company behind the open-source analytics database DuckDB.

AWS said it has worked with DuckLabs since 2024 and that the acquisition is intended to combine DuckLabs' database engineering capabilities with AWS data analytics services. DuckDB co-founders Hannes Mühleisen and Mark Raasveldt will continue to lead the team at AWS and oversee the technical direction of the open-source project. Amazon said the transaction does not include the DuckDB open-source project itself, which will remain under the independent DuckDB Foundation and continue to be available under the MIT License. Amazon added that DuckDB users should not see changes before or after the deal closes, and AWS will later announce plans for integrating DuckLabs with its business.
