IT Home August 26日消息:Before the 2026 Xbox Games Showcase (Xbox Game Presentation), fans were unhappy with Microsoft for showing the PS5 logo in a trailer. Microsoft CEO Asha Sharma then stepped in and promised to reassess this kind of promotional approach that includes multi-platform information. After confirming that some games are returning to Xbox exclusivity at this event, the public may have already seen the first signs of a shift in Microsoft’s marketing strategy.

At this showcase, Sharma announced that (Gears of War: E-Day) will no longer launch on the PlayStation platform, and that (Atomic Heart) will also be released only on PC and Xbox consoles. However, (Forza Horizon 6) and (Fable) still plan to launch on competing platforms.

(Minecraft: Dungeons 2) is another game that will launch on the PS5, while also coming to the Switch and Switch 2. A social media user named Idle Sloth noted that this action RPG has already appeared in multiple versions of trailers. The video posted by Xbox’s official YouTube account removed the logos of competing platforms, while the same video on other channels clearly advertised that the game will be available on Nintendo and Sony consoles.

IT Home noticed that (Fable) at Gamescom 2026 is using the same kind of adjusted marketing approach. Previously, Microsoft used the slogan “Xbox games are everywhere.” This change may satisfy players who want Microsoft to place more emphasis on Xbox Series X and Series S. However, given that Microsoft is already facing a decline in revenue, this approach could also have a negative impact on game sales.

The user base of the Xbox console is far behind that of the PS5, so is it really reasonable to deliberately downplay a game’s multi-platform attributes? This is still worth questioning. However, PlayStation and Nintendo could certainly promote Microsoft’s games on their respective YouTube channels—for example, (Minecraft: Dungeons 2).

If Microsoft in the future relies even more on Xbox exclusive titles, then the debate surrounding how multi-platform marketing is handled may become less important. Interestingly, Sony has recently also begun re-emphasizing PlayStation exclusivity in its own YouTube trailers. Sony’s latest promotional campaign, “Only on PS5,” which is limited to the PS5, uses different wording from the slogans used in earlier videos. It’s expected that Sony will also stop bringing many single-player game titles to the Steam platform.
