WTI crude oil breaks through $80, Iran-Iraq ceasefire deal reportedly imminent

Just now, crude oil collapsed directly: WTI fell below $80, and Brent also moved close to $85. The reason is simple—Russian media says the U.S. and Iran have reached consensus on the ceasefire deal terms, including freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

While Trump is issuing tough statements, the navy has already cleared the mines in the strait and said anyone who lays more mines will be dealt with directly. Iran and Oman are also discussing the establishment of a temporary sea corridor.

Oil is down, but safe-haven assets may not be. Gold has risen for 4 straight days, nearing $4,700. The logic behind this move is: geopolitical risk cools → oil prices fall → inflation pressure eases → the Fed could turn even more dovish → risk assets benefit.

But market sentiment is currently very fragile. Although the Iran-U.S. situation shows signs of easing, both sides are still hard-lining—whether it actually gets implemented will depend on what comes next. Don’t assume things are stable just because the situation looks calmer, and blindly chase higher.
