According to a report by Caixin, the largest backer of the Trump family’s crypto project World Liberty Financial has come to light—not Sun Yuchen, who is known in the market, but a Chinese national named Zhou Guren.

The UAE investment firm Aqua 1 Foundation invested $100 million to buy $WLFI , exceeding the total amount of $75 million that Sun Yuchen had previously put in, making it the project’s largest single buyer. Zhou Guren is the actual controller of Aqua 1.

It is worth noting that, to date, Zhou Guren is still listed on China’s National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System’s list of dishonest judgment debtors, involving 6 cases with total debts amounting to tens of millions of yuan. Meanwhile, a charging document disclosed by the UK’s Royal Prosecution Service shows that Zhou Guren is currently also involved in a money-laundering case in the UK.

A dishonest debtor burdened with debts of tens of millions, yet able to come up with $100 million to buy up a crypto project by the U.S. president’s family—its source of funds is indeed intriguing.
