According to the latest report from Caixin, the identity of the largest backer of the Trump family’s encrypted project World Liberty Financial has been revealed: the UAE investment firm Aqua 1 Foundation reportedly invested $100 million to buy $WLFI , surpassing Justin Sun, who had previously put in $75 million, making Aqua 1 Foundation the project’s biggest buyer.

But the real controller behind this major buyer, Zhou Guren, has raised many questions regarding his identity and background. According to information from China’s National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity System, Zhou Guren, born in Shanghai in 1984, is still a dishonest (default) judgment debtor, and is involved in six cases with total outstanding debts in the tens of millions of yuan. Even more noteworthy is that, according to a recently published indictment by the UK Royal Prosecution Service, Zhou Guren is also implicated in a local money-laundering case in the UK.

With successive revelations that the project’s major funders are tied to debt and legal disputes, the market can’t help but put a big question mark over the project’s own compliance and the background of its funding.
