Zerohash Resubmits OCC Trust Bank License Application
Crypto infrastructure provider Zerohash today restarted its application to the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for a trust bank license, becoming the second institution to revisit the request during this round of crypto regulatory review. Its first application was voluntarily withdrawn in 2025 after failing to meet regulatory requirements related to segregated custodial assets and an anti–money laundering (AML) monitoring program. The upgraded proposal submitted this time adds two core modules: multi-signature (multi-sig) custody and real-time on-chain transaction screening. If approved, it would enable Zerohash to provide compliant custody and settlement services for crypto assets such as BTC and ETH.
The U.S. compliant custody market is growing at an annual rate of over 40%. Traditional financial institutions still face licensing and qualification constraints when entering the sector. If Zerohash’s application is approved, it would directly lower the compliance threshold for institutions to allocate to crypto assets. In the short term, it is unlikely to cause direct fluctuations in coin prices, but it may raise traditional capital’s medium- to long-term expectations for market entry.
