Negative funding rate + 61% surge—this combo is a bit unusual.

Today, BMT is up 61%, dropping as low as 0.0148 and reaching a high of 0.0246—an increase of a full 66%. But there’s one number that really stands out: the funding rate is -0.0086%, which is negative.

What does a negative funding rate mean? It means shorts are paying longs. In other words, a large portion of the market is betting it will fall—yet the coin price keeps surging upward, “squeezing” those shorts out.

Long/short ratio: 57% of people are still on the sidelines (short/flat), while only 43% are long. With this kind of setup, a 61% rise means this is essentially a short-squeeze—shorts are repeatedly forced to close, then flip and buy back, pushing the price higher and creating a positive feedback loop.

The candlesticks are cooperating too: over the past 8 hourly candles, price stepped up from 0.0154 to 0.0240 without any major pullback, suggesting persistent buying pressure.

Now the question is: the shorts haven’t been fully cleared yet (57% are still short/flat), but if the funding rate turns positive, the pressure will reverse and start weighing on the longs. Next, we need to see whether the prior high near 0.0246 can be broken effectively, and whether the funding rate moves back toward zero.

Strong upside in the short term doesn’t necessarily mean things will stay stable—after a short-squeeze ends, pullbacks often come quickly.
