I used to treat the 50-week moving average like a wall, but today’s BTC pullback is reminding me: moving averages are a zone, not a switch that flips at exactly 1 dollar.
Based on the most recent 50 closed weekly candles on Binance BTCUSDT, the moving average is around $81,785. The 24-hour high was $81,270.5—only 0.63% away. The price then fell back to around $78,836. This zone does respond, but a single pullback isn’t enough to confirm a trend reversal.
Position value can be very misleading. In roughly the past 3 hours, open interest increased by 0.15% by coin count, but decreased by 0.79% by dollar value. Coin count didn’t decline in sync—so even though the dollar value shrank, some of that can be attributed to price pulling back, and it can’t all be explained by position unwinding. Funding rate is about +0.01%. In the past hour, aggressive buy/sell volume ratio swung from 0.43 up to 2.55, with direction still flipping back and forth.
