$TWT On Monday (24), the United States revoked, through the Department of State, Syria’s status as a State Sponsor of Terrorism. In an official statement from the U.S. Treasury Department, the government announced the removal, along with the withdrawal of the designation of the group Hay'at Tahrir al-Sham, or the Front al-Nusra, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Organization (SDGT). The initial announcement was made on July 8 by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, through a statement. At the time, Rubio said that “Lifting sanctions against Syria will unlock international trade and investment, give Syria a chance to rebuild, and open a new chapter for the Syrian people,” and that “A stable, unified Syria at peace with itself and with its neighbors benefits not only the region, but the entire world.”
