The United States has exported nearly one billion US dollars in cryptocurrency from Iran since May, as part of what Treasury Secretary Bessent described as an "economic landing day".

Digital assets have been classified as one of five vital elements targeted by sanctions against Iran, along with gold, aviation, shipping, and technology.

The sanctions imposed specifically on Monday targeted Iranian Bitcoin wallets linked to individuals subject to sanctions.
