CANADA PREPARES TO RESPOND WITH RETALIATION, TRADE WAR ESCALATION CONTINUES

🔸 Canada is expected to announce details of a new retaliatory tariff package this week, after trade negotiations with the U.S. collapsed. The measures will officially take effect from 9/8, applying the principle of “dollar for dollar” to approximately $20B worth of U.S. goods.

🔸 The targeted sectors include steel, dairy, household appliances, agricultural machinery, pulp, paper, and electronics. This is a direct response to the 50% tariff level that the Trump administration has imposed on about $20B worth of Canadian goods.

🔸 Notably, Prime Minister Mark Carney said Canada will not accept any conditions Washington sets and is looking to reduce its dependence on the U.S. market. Meanwhile, the U.S. has also signaled that it will respond to Canada’s measures.

🔸 With U.S.-Canada trade worth hundreds of billions of dollars every year, prolonged tensions could increase pressure on costs, inflation, and North American supply chains. This is a macro risk that financial markets, including crypto, need to continue monitoring.
